Higher Ground

Admissions Criteria

Higher Ground can help people who have an alcohol or drug dependency. When people are dependent on alcohol or drugs, their lives revolve around getting and using alcohol or drugs. Alcohol or drug dependency causes problems with physical and mental health, and work and family responsibilities.

Most Higher Ground clients refer themselves, although we do take referrals from family, friends, other drug and alcohol agencies, doctors, lawyers and probation officers. We encourage clients to make the referral themselves as taking personal responsibility is an important step.

We can only admit New Zealand residents who fall into the following 4 categories:

  • People who live in Waitemata, Auckland or Counties Manukau DHB areas can phone us to arrange an assessment on 09 834 0042
  • People who live in the Waikato need to ask a Waikato-based alcohol/drug service for a referral to Higher Ground. Such services include Care New Zealand 07 839 0389 and CADS 07 839 4352
  • People who live elsewhere in New Zealand and who have a problem with methamphetamine can phone us to arrange an assessment on 09 834 0042.
